"I am excited to write a piece specifically for performance in the Planetarium, a place I visited many times as a child. I remember how exciting that space was when I was young: the dark room, the surrounding sound and video—and the astronaut ice cream in the gift shop. Learning about the planets and stars carried my imagination into new worlds and possibilities. This project, which asks composers to visit far flung planets and imagine them in sound, will, I hope, captivate the audience in the same way."
-Jennifer Butler, composer

The concert will begin with Denis Gougeon's brilliant and powerful Piano soleil (1990), from his series Six thèmes solaires, which, together with Holst's classic The Planets, sparked the inspiration for this concert. Jordan Nobles' Fragments (2001-2004), a group of sparkling miniatures depicting the Asteroid Belt, will take its place between Mars and Jupiter.
